Last month we shared statistics on popularity Tomcat, Glassfish and Jetty servers. Since then thousands of new environments were created and deployed in Jelastic PaaS so we have a good sample of data to publish this month too. So, let’s dive into October-November servers distribution comparison!

First of all, we’d like to note that Tomcat stays an unquestioned leader and has left its competitors far behind. And here is a proof diagram.

Let’s take a look at the popularity of application servers depending on the region.

Compared with October when Jetty was way more popular in the US than in Europe, this month developers from both regions have almost achieved a consensus (see current figures below).

Europe

NA

Total

Tomcat

85%

86%

85%

GlassFish

12%

11%

12%

Jetty

4%

3%

3%

And here is a chart showing how the numbers changed since October.

Thus, we can conclude that there was no change in “server tastes” much since last month.

Stay tuned to our blog to see December statistics!

Please do not compare Web Containers (Tomcat, Jetty etc.) with Application Servers (GlassFish, JBoss, WebSphere etc.) in terms of marketshare. That is like comparing the number of cars with the number of airplanes in service. Thank you.
