The Duke’s Choice Awards 2012 – We Won!

We won! As Ruslan our CEO put it, it’s like winning the “Oscar” of the Java World. Last night, at the Taylor Street Cafe event here at JavaOne, Jelastic won the Duke’s Choice Technology Leader Award. It was pretty awesome to share the stage with other winners from the Hadoop Project, Parleys.com and Liquid Robotics (James Gosling’s project that is also using Jelsatic), to name a few. There were a total of 8 winners that were chosen, and we are pretty excited to be one of them. Below, Sharat Chander is presenting us with the award.

The Duke’s Choice Awards celebrate extreme innovation in the world of Java technology. They are only granted to the most innovative, novel and groundbreaking projects using Java. They are a prestigious10-year old tradition within the Java community and receiving one is the highest honor that one can receive in the Java world. The primary criteria for the awards are innovation: Jelastic contribution to the Java world is the development of the next-generation Java hosting platform – the Java Elastic Cloud.

When we first found out that we had won, we couldn’t believe it… in fact, we emailed back asking for confirmation. Winning this award is confirmation that we are headed in the right direction, that we are providing a technology that the community needs and wants and that is actually making a difference.

In the latest Java Magazine, Philip Gill wrote about us:

“Not surprisingly, this year’s awards also show us that Java is at the forefront of today’s most-important technological challenges. Moving existing Java applications to the Cloud can be a daunting task, but startup Jelastic, Inc., offers the first Java Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) that enables existing Java applications to get up and running in the cloud with out code changes or lock-in, according to Judah Johns, the Palo Alto, California, firm’s Chief Evangelist. In addition, the Jelastic platform offers unlimited scalability, also without changes to the existing code.”

Another cool thing is that another one of the award winners, Liquid Robotics, is using Jelastic for some of it’s work. If you remember, James Gosling (“The Father of Java”) has talked about using Jelastic in a number of his presentations and really likes our platform.

We are very proud of winning this award. As we continue to make our platform better, we are happy to know that the community is benefiting and really likes Jelastic.
