Ways to Grow Cloud Hosting Business in Africa: SAFOZI Use Case

Within the last years, lots of infrastructure companies have been facing the obstacle when current customers require a more extensive range of provided services. That is why hosting providers really have to expand the variety of their services to get evolved and stay competitive in the cloud market.

It sounds reasonable that many hardware vendors get partnered with the PaaS companies: in this way, IaaS and PaaS partnership can provide environments for developers to easily create and manage custom applications. PaaS brings a wide range of tools for the developers and ensures they can focus on the core tasks that will drive the results.

This time, we`d like to show an example of PaaS and IaaS partnership by sharing an interview with Founder and General Manager of SAFOZI – Zied Ouled Ali. SAFOZI is the parental company of Platform 4 Developers, that is offering Jelastic PaaS from its data center in Tunisia to developers across Africa and Middle-East.

Cooperation with Jelastic helped P4D to get new customers, attracting them by automatic vertical scaling, zero code change while deploying an application to the platform, advanced UI with topology wizard, usage-based granular pricing system, and many other lifeblood features for developers, startups, SMEs, SMBs, and big companies.

Why did you start partnership with Jelastic?

Before starting with Jelastic we provided simple cloud servers, just offering compute memory and disk capacity, and we`ve seen that our market is requiring something with a higher level of service, while we allow customers to benefit from automation. That`s why we decided to partner with Jelastic so that they can install complex environments in just one click. Now a usual CMS like Drupal, WordPress and Joomla deployment takes just several minutes. These are the main reasons why we decided to partner with Jelastic started offering our own Platform as a Service (PaaS).

What features are considered the most useful?

Before Jelastic, we used to offer just servers and customers were compelled to make all settings as well as customize the code by themselves, for the application to be deployed, as well as configured properly for scaling and load balancing. That was actually very painful and not an easy task.

And with Jelastic you don’t have to do it. You just need to create your environment per click in minutes and then just push your code and start benefiting from autoscaling. It`s really very easy to manage even for beginners. The advantage for the programmers is that they do not need to learn how to sysadmin their infrastructure.

What infrastructure do you use for running Jelastic platform?

We are deploying Jelastic on our OnApp-based servers. And it`s actually a huge advantage for service providers that they can install Jelastic without extra investment in additional hardware. They can just partner with Jelastic and they are in a few months up and running.

    Thank you, Zied!
