From VMs to Containers: Decompose and Migrate Old Legacy JavaEE Application

Keeping up a good tradition of advanced technological sessions, this year Jelastic CEO Ruslan Synytsky prepared a revealing speech about the decomposition process of legacy Java EE applications.

From VMs to Containers: Decompose and Migrate Old Legacy Java EE Applications
It is not a trivial task to decompose large monolithic enterprise applications and migrate them into multiple containers architecture without redesign. At this session, we’ll dive deeply into the decomposition process and the ways to make it smooth, as well as to remove the bottlenecks for auto-scaling and load balancing. We will share the main road blockers and possible solutions during migration of GlassFish based applications from VMs to Containers based on the real experience.

Panel Discussions and Sessions that Cannot Be Missed

Be sure to visit the following five-star motivational sessions and get tightly involved in Java cloud hosting discussions:

1. Secrets of Rock Star Developers (and How to Become One!)
When: Sunday, October 01 from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm
Where: Moscone West – Room 2003
Speakers: Bruno Souza (ToolsCloud) and Yuji KUBOTA (NTT)
Being a “rock star” or a “celebrity” developer is not about being popular or giving presentations at big events. What sets those developers apart is the work they do on innovative projects and initiatives and working with other great developers, they create a positive feedback loop that lifts their career into the stratosphere. No matter what project you are working on right now, you can take the same path. Discover what every speaker at JavaOne 2017 did that made that person a rock star.

2. Powerful Lessons from Top Java EE Experts
When: Sunday, October 01, from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm
Where: Moscone West – Room 2002
Speakers: Elder Moraes (SouJava, Oracle) and Cesar Hernandez Mendoza (Tomitribe)
Java server-side developers working with Java EE, microservices, Spring, or cloud computing have many reasons to consider the powerful new features of Java EE 8. HTML5, HTTP 2.0, JSON, CDI, cloud support, and other cool innovations are reasons to celebrate. But there are more Java EE 8 benefits. Learn more about how to adopt Java EE 8, what advantages it can bring to your project as well as how to overcome the challenges during this shift.

3. Taking Java EE to the Clouds
When: Wednesday, Oct 04, from 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm
Where: Moscone West – Room 2020
Speakers: Reza Rahman (Consultant, Independent), Rodrigo Bortoloto (CapTech Consulting), Ryan Cuprak (Dassault Systemes)
It promises to be a fast-paced tour of the many options available for running Java EE applications in the cloud. It covers bare metal IaaS options such as AWS; PaaS options that provide native support for Java EE, such as Oracle Java Cloud Service/BlueMix; and everything in between. You`ll see how to deploy Dockerized Java EE applications to such solutions as Jelastic as well as running Java EE applications by using fat-jar solutions on the example of WildFly Swarm on bare JVM-based platforms such as Heroku. The presentation includes plenty of code examples and demos along the way.

Live Java Talks at the Developer Lounge

Chatting about Java is never enough 🙂 Use one more cool option to share thoughts about The Future of Java in Containers with Ruslan Synytsky and other technical peers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Hackergarten.

When: Wednesday, October 04, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
